Tuesday, July 12 – “Civilized Man” Reviewed // 4.5 out of 5 stars
Nashville’s independent radio station Lightning 100 gave “Civilized Man” a great review in the latest issue of Brite Magazine alongside Fleet Foxes, My Morning Jacket, and more. We are humbled and honored at their kind words.
“Apparently nobody told Daniel Ellsworth that when you drop your first full-length, it’s not supposed to be a greatest hits record. You’re supposed to build up to that. I say this for two reasons—just hear me out. One, every song sounds like it could be a hit. Two, every song sounds different, like each was plucked from a series of dusty vinyl, cracked cassettes and ripped MP3s. It’s all over the place in a phenomenal way. I hate comparing musicians, but this sounds like a cross between Jack White and M. Ward, and those guys are about three sips of absinthe away from total wizardry. Seriously, this will be my highest rated review. Go. Buy. The. Record.”

Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes release their first full-length album!
After a long year, and thanks to the kindness of our fans, friends, and families who supported us in our Kickstarter campaign, we are so excited to announce the release of our first full-length album, Civilized Man. The album was tracked in Nashville, Tennessee with producer/engineer Mark Nevers (Andrew Bird, Bonnie “prince” Billy, Yo La Tengo). The album releases Monday, May 9th, via our website, and to the rest of the world on iTunes and Amazon on Tuesday, May 10th. If you are in the Nashville area, come out on Saturday, May 14th to join us in celebrating our CD Release at Exit In!

10/25/2010 – Heading Into The Studio In January…
A big thank you to everyone who has been coming out to our shows recently! It is because of you that we get to keep doing what we love! Over the last two years, what essentially started as more of a solo project, has been morphing into something of a full band. In recent months we have been hard at work writing & arranging songs together in hopes of coming up with an albums’ worth of material. Well the time has come and we are excited to announce that we will be heading into the studio in January to track our first full-length record as a band! We will be recording in Nashville at Beech House Recording with the incredible Mark Nevers (Andrew Bird, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Yo La Tengo, Lambchop, Calexico, Charlie Louvin) and we couldn’t be more excited. However, as much as we wish we could, we can’t do this record on our own. What they forget to tell you in music school is that nobody makes any money and everything is expensive (especially recording!). That’s why, in the next few months, we will be asking for YOUR help to make this record happen. Through a company called Kickstarter, we will be raising money to help fund this recording process. With each pledge, depending on the amount, you will be given something from us in return. It may be anything from an advance copy of the record once it is finished, to t-shirts, to private house concerts, to your name in the album credits, and more! We are not sure exactly what all this is going to look like yet, but please stay tuned and stick with us as we embark on this journey together. We love our fans and families and friends more than anything in the whole world and we are so excited to have you be a part of this whole process with us.

Daniel is tracking some original Christmas songs live-to-tape at Welcome To 1979 Studios in Nashville, Tennessee for an upcoming compilation to be released by our good friends at Music City Unsigned.
